Restaurant la vie with the best international wine list

The famous California Wine Institute and the German gourmet guide "Feinschmecker" announced the winner of the California Wine Trophy 2006 in the gourmet magazine's October edition. Osnabrück's Restaurant la vie has been named the restaurant with the best international wine list.

For the moment, the 19 points achieved by Thomas Bühner when he cooked in Dortmund's Spielbank are symbolically in brackets, of course, because even a fantastic chef like our "Chef of the year" 2006 will have some start-up difficulties - which he will surely overcome - after having moved with the whole team and having equipped his new domain by himself, thanks to the generosity of steel manufacturer and house-owner Dr. Jürgen Grossmann, who is really infatuated with good food and the best wine.

"Chef of the Year" - Thomas Bühner has opened the Restaurant la vie in Osnabrück

It is done: Tomorrow 2-star chef Thomas Bühner, chef and head of the restaurant la vie in Lower Saxony's Osnabrück, together with his partner and restaurant manager Thayarni Kanagaratnam will welcome his guests for the first time to his new domain. The whole team - among them Susanne Spies - who for many years had worked in the 2-star Restaurant La Table in the Casino Hohensyberg together with Thomas Bühner and Thayarni Kanagartanam has followed these two to the Restaurant la vie. The personally managed restaurant, in which the guests are supposed to "feel like home", has been redesigned over the last months so that the guests can be welcomed in a comfortable atmosphere. During 14 years at the Restaurant La Table, Thomas Bühner and his team received the best grades and numerous titles from all gourmet guides. Thomas Bühner was last named "Chef of the year 2006" and received 19 points from Gault Millau. Thayarni Kanagaratnam and Susanne Spies, too, received awards from Gault Millau. They were named "Head Waiter" and "Sommelière" of the year. Thomas Bühner is one of Germany's 10 best cooks, having received 2 Michelin stars, 5 cooking spoons and the title "Top-class Cook of the Year" from Schlemmeratlas (German guide to fine dining), 4 stars from Varta guide and 4.5 F from Feinschmecker.

Thomas Bühner in the WDR (Western German broadcasting company) report "Here and now: 2 stars are moving"

Two-star chef Thomas Bühner and Thayarni Kanagaratnam, the new hosts of the Restaurant la vie in Lower Saxony's Osnabrück, will be shown on WDR in the 30-minute report "Here and now: 2 stars are moving" on Saturday, 8 April at 6.20 p.m. WDR reporter Stefan Quante accompanied them during their move from Dortmund's Restaurant La Table to their new Restaurant la vie. Over several days of shooting, the WDR team documented how the new domain came into creation, the farewell evening in the old restaurant and the individual steps leading up to the opening of la vie.
